A method and system for processing multiple-request transactions in astatelessenvironment is provided. A cartridge execution engine (228) intercepts browsermessagesdirected to a cartridge. The cartridge execution engine (228) determineswhether the browsermessages are associated with transactions. If it is determined that browsesmessages areassociated with transactions, then the cartridge execution engine (228) sendstransactioncontrol messages to a transaction manager (606). In addition, the cartridgeexecution engine(228) sends operation messages to the cartridge. The cartridge then performsthe operationsspecified in the operation messages. In response to the transaction controlmessages from thecartridge execution engine (228), the transaction manager (506) causes themultiple-requesttransactions to be either committed or rolled back as an atomic unit of work.
