A METHOD FOR BUILDING A FILE SYSTEM STORAGE MEDIA FOR MOBILE COMPUTING DEVICES ON A NETWORK

In this invention, a block storage device driver implements an abstractinterface to a file located on anetwork that is used as the storage media for the file system of a mobilecomputing device. When the filesystem of the mobile computing device requires access to the data, a desktopagent moves data between thesatellite store and the block storage device driver using TCP/IP across thenetwork. The desktop agentmoves data in contiguous memory blocks, which are called pages, and recentlyaccessed pages aretemporarily cached in the mobile unit. This invention requires no change tothe mobile device resident filesystem for this method to be implemented.
