The present Invention brings forward a optimal design method for encoding space-time trellis in reyleigh channel, wherein: If largest diversity and code gain and minimized error probability is to be achieved, for space-time code system of n transmitted and m received in reyleigh fading channel, effective length and square product distance of the two code words must be maximized; therein corresponding to total layers of diversity that system obtains, time diversity, tramsmitting diversity and received diversity is included, the layers of time diversity correspond to number of time index i, the layers of transmitting diversity correspond to number of transmitting antenna index p, m stands for the layers of received diversity, corresponding to coding gain that system acquires. The space-time coding designed by effective length and least product distance that present invention brings forward is adopted, it has advantage of acquiring more coding gain, and possessing corking antifading capability.
