The invention relates to a method for the production of a cardboard and/or paper composite for a packaging for hygroscopic goods, more particularly detergent and cleaning agents in powder, granular or tablet form, wherein individual plies made of cardboard and/or paper are placed on top of each other and connected to one another, wherein a film-like water vapor barrier layer is placed at least between two plies. The invention aims at providing a water vapor barrier layer for packaging materials based on cardboard and/or paper composites, which can be produced with the easiest possible technical means and whose water vapor permeability is considerably reduced. This is achieved in that cycloolefin (COC) is used as material for the water vapor barrier layer. A polyethylene (PE), more particularly a low-density polyethylene (LDPE), is used as adhesion promoter. Both plastics are applied either as a mixture or as a composite film.
