A composition for holographic recording materials which comprises a binder polymer (A) soluble in organic solvents, a polymerizable compound (B) having an ethylenically unsaturated double bond, a photopolymerization initiator (C), and a photosensitizer dye (D). It is excellent in sensitivity, transparency, and diffraction efficiency, which are properties required for holography. The photopolymer composition for holography, which is for use in a volume-phase holographic recording material in which the intensity distribution concerning lightness/darkness of a light interference pattern is to be recorded based on changes in refractive index, comprises a binder polymer (A) soluble in organic solvents, a polymerizable compound (B) having an ethylenically unsaturated double bond, a photopolymerization initiator (C), a photosensitizer dye (D), and a supersensitizer (E).
