A text edition method capable of editing a long text and enabling a user to easily grasp the meaning of a long text being edited. When reading a text to be edited, if a linefeed symbol is present among the forty characters which can be displayed on the screen at once, the text up to the linefeed symbol is made a partial text, and if no linefeed symbol is present, a linefeed symbol is inserted at the fortieth character and the text up to the linefeed symbol is made a partial text. The partial text is recorded in a first memory. Partial texts can be selected to be edited and data of the selected partial text is recorded in a second memory and is displayed on the screen, thereby actually performing edition.
