Cardiac defibrillation lead having at least ventricular defibrillation and atrial sensing electrodes

An apparatus for delivering electrical charges to a patient's heart is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a lead (12) having a catheter (28) with a proximal end and a distal end. At least one defibrillation electrode (14,18) is arranged on the catheter (28) for placement through the patient's vein. Connectors (10,20) are provided for connecting the at least one defibrillation electrode (14,18) to a cardioverter/defibrillator. Moreover, at least one atrial sensing electrode (26) is positioned on the catheter (28), such said it is proximate the patient's atria when the lead (12) is in place.
