Process for the preparation of 2,4,6-trichloropyrimidine

Prepn. of 2,4,6-trichloropyrimidine (I) comprises (1) reaction of barbituric acid (II) with POCl3, opt. in the presence of a catalyst; and then (2) reaction with PCl5 or reagents forming this, esp. PCl3 and Cl2. Also claimed is (I) prepd. by this method.
