There is provided a method and a device for universal and secured access to the telephone network and to offer multimedia and operator services, that is used for home banking, for loading of electronic purses, to operator services or for emergency services for medical purposes by means of smart cards. The device or the multimedia device (29) consists essentially of a very small mobile and portable unit with a keyboard (31) with a display (36), with a folding portion (34) with built-in microphone (35) and with a DTMF transmitter (7) and an insertion device (37) for mobile data carrier (1) is equipped. Both the mobile data carrier as well as the multimedia device (29) have their own memory (4 or 10) as well as its own control unit (3 or 8) and one unit or device (2 or 6) for data exchange.
