The device automatically returns the furling boom of the large sail (6) to the optimum angle alpha immediately the sheet is slackened. This is determined with the runner or groove (16) which guides the mast hoisting. It includes an extendable jack (1,2,3,4) the extension of which, produced by pressure from a spring (19), is limited by a stop (20). The jack is articulated by one end on the boom and by its other end on the large sail mast. The spring exerts a sufficient force for the boom to reach the angular position alpha when the sheet is slackened.
