The invention concerns the control of kinematics of piston stroke in heat engines operating in a 3-stroke or 5-stroke cycle wherein the pistons (1, 1A) are stopped in their movement and maintained at their top dead center for a period of time and of camshaft rotation by at least 50 degrees enabling in particular combustion of the gas mixture at constant volume. The invention is characterized in that the axis of the cylinders (4, 4A) and opposite pistons (1, 1A), and the fixed point of the pressure lever (12) are substantially aligned on a common axis (X, X') and further characterized in that the lower arm and its symmetry represent a single arm (12) with a pivot, or fixed point, substantially at its center and two axes at each of the free ends linked to the opposite pistons by connecting rods. The invention is applicable to land vehicles, cars, buses, motorcycles, boats, emergency generators, cogeneration units, stationary heat engines.
