USE OF A RIFAMYCIN DERIVATIVE FOR TREATING MASTITIS IN A DOMESTIC ANIMAL

A method for treating mastitis in a domestic animal in need of such a treatment, which comprises administering to the animal a pharmaceutical composition comprising a rifamycin derivative of formula (1) wherein R is an alkyl group having 1 to 7 carbon atoms or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient, and a physiologically acceptable carrier. The present invention provides a novel therapeutic method effective for treatment of mastitis caused by bacterial infection in a domestic animal.
