The invention concerns a nucleotide sequence coding for an enzyme having acetolactase synthase (ALS) activity, functional in the genus Cichorium, characterized in that said enzyme has reduced affinity for sulphonylurea or imidazolinone compounds. The invention also concerns an enzyme encoded by said sequence, a plant cell or a plant containing same. The invention further concerns a method for detecting a herbicide-tolerant plant, as well as a crop weeding method.
