A wireless receiver, e.g., a Bluetooth-compatible receiver or a receive chain in a Bluetooth-compatible transceiver, includes a discriminator unit for bit-slicing over-sampled reception data and a timing recovery unit. The output of the discriminator unit (52) is provided as an input to the timing recovery unit, which is configured to align a free-running clock (72) of the receiver with a receiver signal to perform mid-point sampling of the received data. The timing recovery unit comprises an edge detector (73, 74) coupled to the output of the discriminator, a comparator circuit (76, 77, 82, 89, 90) for determining whether the rising edge of a recovered clock signal (1680) aligns with a midpoint of the received data signal (1660) and an edge shifter (88, 79) for advancing (67) or delaying (86) the received data signal depending on the rising edge of the recovered clock signal being proximate a falling or leading edge of the received signal.
