The invention refers to a hinge mechanism for folding legs (2) of a folding leg table comprises a bracket made from two halves (7,8) for receiving a pivot portion (13) attached to the leg (2) and having radially protruding wedge shaped locking projections (16, 17) for being received in locking recesses (21, 22) of the bracket halves (7, 8) for locking the leg (2) in its unfolded position. For unlocking the leg, pivoting it to and locking it in its folded position, the top bracket half (7) is provided with a spring (19) for allowing the pivot (13) to be moved axially (R1) to disengage the projections (16, 17) from the recesses (21, 22), in one embodiment such that the pivot portion (13) may be rotated (R3) to engage the front edge (24) of one (16) of the projections to be held by friction by a braking surface(25). The invention also refers to a folding leg table comprising such a hinge mechanism.
