Method of hydrogen doping of quartz glass bodies to improve the refractive index homogeneity and the laser resistance and at the same time maintain a predetermined stress related birefringence, and quartz glass bodies produced by this method
Process for charging quartz glass bodies with hydrogen in a tempering process in an oven involves setting the temperature and holding time for the hydrogen charging, the hydrogen concentration and the hydrogen pressure in the oven. Process for charging quartz glass bodies with hydrogen in a tempering process in an oven comprises: determining the refractive index distribution, strain birefringence, hydrogen distribution and refractive index differences to be equalized in the quartz glass body; determining the hydrogen change required for the refractive index equalization; and setting the temperature and holding time for the hydrogen charging, the hydrogen concentration and the hydrogen pressure in the oven. An Independent claim is also included for a disk-like quartz glass body produced by the above process. Preferred Features: The tempering process is carried out in a hydrogen and/or air atmosphere.
