The digital image processing method uses a method for detecting red eye defects in the images. Before using the red eye detection process exclusion criteria are checked within the framework of an exclusion process, the criteria being indicative of when the appearance of red eye defect can be definitely excluded. If the criteria are fulfilled the red eye detection process is not carried out.
