A method for the stereoselective production of (r) - 2 - hydroxyketone, characterized in that a benzaldehyde - lyase is used, which in the presence of at least a solubilizing connection, the reaction of two aldehyde groups containing compounds, at least one of which is no acetaldehyde, or of a compound containing aldehyde groups with a (r) - 2 - hydroxy ketone groups containing compound, while maintaining the stereochemical arrangement of the latter to a further (r) - 2 - hydroxy ketone groups containing compound is catalyzed.
