PURPOSE: A mixed time domain and frequency domain equalization algorithm for an ADSL(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) system is provided to train a TEQ(Time-domain Equalizer) having at least one coefficient. CONSTITUTION: A channel is estimated, and at least one coefficient of a time-domain equalizer(18) is initialized. At least one coefficient of the time-domain equalizer(18) is updated with the estimated channel. The updated channel is retained. The updated value of at least one coefficient of the time-domain equalizer(18) is fixed for at least one-symbol duration. A modulated symbol is calculated on the basis of an output of the time-domain equalizer(18). The second value for the estimated channel is calculated on the basis of the modulated symbol. The estimated channel is set up to the second value. The time-domain equalizer(18) is repeatedly updated while setting the estimated channel to the second value until a predetermined condition has been met.
