PURPOSE: An apparatus for adaptive motion compensation deinterlacing and a method thereof are provided to effectively reduce flickering and artifact by adaptively selecting motion compensation interpolation value and space-time interpolation value according to the motion of an input image. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for adaptive motion compensation deinterlacing includes a motion estimating element(410) estimating a motion vector of a field to be interpolated by using a motion vector between fields; a motion judging element(420) analyzing the estimated motion vector for estimating the existence of global motion; a motion compensation interpolating element(440) executing motion compensation in the field to be interpolated, with the estimated vector, thereby generating a pixel to be interpolated; a space-time interpolating element(450) generating the pixel to be interpolated, with the pixel to be interpolated in the field to be interpolated and the adjacent pixels, and the pixel to be interpolated in the preceding and succeeding fields of the field to be interpolated and the adjacent pixels; and an adaptive selecting part(460) selectively outputting the pixels generated in the motion compensation interpolating element and the space-time interpolating element.
