PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling the selection of a signaling path in an optical communication system are provided to control the signaling path using a time slot interchange according to a signaling level so that a user voluntarily sets an input and output switching path. CONSTITUTION: TUPPs(Tributary Unit Pointer Processing parts)(10,12,14) perform the TU pointer process of signals inputted from input terminals of at least two or more directions and having various transmission bit rates by the request of a user, and set the levels of the signals as TU levels for changing the levels of the signals to signaling levels requested by the user. TUDXs(Tributary Unit Cross-Connection Parts)(16,18,20,22) calculate the position and number of time slots corresponding to the signaling levels changed in the TUPPs(10,12,14) using a certain calculation formula, and connect an input terminal of a signaling path selected by the user to an output terminal of the signaling path.
