The present invention reacts an isocyanate of the general formula R-NCO (II) with sodium azide (NaN 3 ) in a molar ratio of 1: 1 in a polar solvent in the presence of aluminum chloride (AlCl 3 ), and then removes excess inorganic acid and water. Characterized in that the present invention relates to a process for preparing 1-substituted-5 (4H) -tetrazolinone of the general formula (I) in a very good yield.;In the above formula,;R is alkyl, haloalkyl, cycloalkyl, or optionally substituted phenyl or aralkyl.
