PURPOSE: A communication protocol for operating automobile telematics office and multimedia(ATOM) is provided to be capable of processing various interface signals between a microcomputer and a central processing unit in real time. CONSTITUTION: A communication protocol for operating a vehicle-purposed ATOM is used to communicate communication data between a microcomputer and a CPU in both ways. The communication data a head code portion, a function code portion, and a data portion. The function code portion is assigned according to the head code portion, and indicates the contents of a function code corresponding to a key selected by a driver. The data portion is assigned according to the function code portion, and indicates such data that assigned bits are variable according to the contents of the function code. Such data corresponds to the function code.
