PURPOSE: A process for preparing methyl 3,7-dipropoxy cholate is provided, thereby rapidly preparing the methyl 3,7-dipropoxy cholate in higher purity and yield. CONSTITUTION: The process for preparing methyl 3,7-dipropoxy cholate represented by formula(1) from methyl cholate represented by formula(2) is characterized by using dimethylaminopyridine as a catalyst in the presence of a base, wherein the dimethylaminopyridine is used in an amount of 0.02 to 0.12 equivalent, preferably 0.06 to 0.1 equivalent; the base used is pyridine; the pyridine is used in an amount of 3 to 12 equivalent; and the reaction temperature is -10 deg. C to 40 deg. C, preferably -5 deg. C to 5 deg. C.
