PURPOSE: A surface-normal-vector-based triangle mesh segmentation system and method are provided to effectively perform mesh segmentation for the model of a specific object. CONSTITUTION: The normal vector of each triangle is calculated(301), and an angle between the normal vectors of neighboring triangles is compared with the predetermined first critical value(304), to generate a sub-combination control signal corresponding to the compared result. The neighboring triangles are selectively combined into sub-regions in response to the sub-combination control signal. The average normal vector of each sub-region is calculated(330), and the angle between the average normal vectors of neighboring sub-regions is compared with the predetermined second critical value(334), to generate a main combination control signal corresponding to the compared result. The neighboring sub-regions are selectively combined into a plurality of main regions in response to the main combination control signal(338). The boundary of each main region is processed using segment and boundary vertex according to the boundary of each main region(342).
