PURPOSE: Expanded switching of video/S-video signals by an automatic sensing apparatus designed to initiate switching of a different type of video signal, and an apparatus for emulating one type of signals by another type of signals to initiate switching are provided to adapt the second type signal for emulating the first type signal by the circuit, and to connect plural adaptive signals normally connected to the Integrated circuit input terminals to the single S2 protocol terminal of the integrated circuit through the signal lead. CONSTITUTION: A video switching system wherein an integrated circuit designed to switch video signals responsive to a first type of signal(S2-1) is used to switch video signals of a second type of signal which is adapted to emulate the first type of signal. Circuits(18,22,24,26) for adapting the second type of signal to emulate the first type of signal is disclosed. A plurality of the adapted signals, where each signal is normally coupled to the own IC input terminal, are coupled to a single S2 protocol terminal of the integrated circuit through a single lead.
