PURPOSE: An optical fiber doped with a rare earth having large nonlinearity is provided, which suppresses an effective area of an optical fiber core in order to have large nonlinearity and thus obtains high optical amplification effect. CONSTITUTION: The first core layer(14) is doped with a rare earth element of a small effective cross sectional area in order to have a low dispersion value and dispersion slope. The first cladding layer(13) is formed out of the first core layer in order to have a lower refractive index than the dispersion value and dispersion slope of the first core layer. And an optical fiber protection coating layer(10) is formed out of the first cladding layer in order to protect an optical fiber.
