CONSTITUTION: A method for distinguishing thermal motion from adjacent track encroachment in a head includes the steps of preparing a disc having at least a surface with a plurality of tracks, carrying out recording on a predetermined track among the tracks(408), providing a first profile value by reading a profile of the predetermined track(410), moving to an adjacent track of the predetermined track and carrying out recording on the adjacent track(412), providing a second profile value by reading the predetermined track(414), and determining a quality value(ATE value) of the head on the basis of the first and second profile values(416).
