PURPOSE: A phase array antenna system is provided to need no expensive outer modulator and microwave signal source by controlling a phase of a phase array antenna using the same method as that of a conventional phase array antenna. CONSTITUTION: A multi-mode FP-LD(500) generates an optical pulse by gain switching. A high dispersion fiber(520) passes a generated optical output pulse and separates each mode of the multi-mode FP-LD(500) to generate a microwave signal. An optical distributor(530) is divided by an array number in order to send the mode-separated optical pulse stream to an antenna array. Time delay lines(550a-550n) make the distributed optical pulses pass non-dispersion optical fibers(540a-540n) of different lengths so as to have a phase difference. Optical detectors(560a-560n) converts the optical pulses into electric signals, and amplifiers(570a-570n) amplify the converted optical signals, and antenna arrays(580a-580n) transfer the amplified optical pulses.
