PURPOSE: A hard disk drive having a heater and a method of controlling the internal temperature of the hard disk drive are provided to maintain the temperature of the inner space of the disk drive at a threshold temperature or higher to prevent the performance of a magnetic head from being deteriorated due to temperature. CONSTITUTION: A hard disk drive(10) includes a base plate(16), a spindle motor(14) combined with the base plate, a disk(12) combined with the spindle motor, and an actuator arm(24) installed on the base plate. The hard disk drive further includes a voice coil motor(32) combined with the actuator arm, a head(20) connected with the actuator arm, and a cover(18) combined with the base plate to form an inner space for accommodating the head. The hard disk drive also has a heater(44) placed in the inner space, a temperature sensor(46) for sensing the temperature of the inner space, and a control circuit(36) for controlling the heater to prevent the temperature of the inner space from being lower than a threshold temperature.
