PURPOSE: A spiral bevel gear shape error measuring apparatus is provided to precisely measure a tooth shape error and a tooth trace error of a bevel gear by using a coordinate measuring machine. CONSTITUTION: A three dimensional coordinate is measured with respect to a bevel gear-shaped non-continuous point by using a coordinate measuring machine. Then, a virtual gear model is created in a three dimensional space by using a measured coordinate value. Then, a software master model is formed from a spherical involute coordinate based on gear design data and specification. The software master model is compared with the virtual gear model. Then, a tooth shape error and a tooth trace error are measured based on a difference between the software master model and the virtual gear model.
