PURPOSE: A PC-based TV set-top box system and a method for exclusively providing contents are provided to connect to the allowed Internet sites by using a PC-based TV set-top box and set-top box driving software. CONSTITUTION: A PC(130) is loaded with a dedicated browser(136) and driving software(135) for driving a set-top box(106). When the set-top box is initially installed, the PC connects to a specific site for registering subscriber data, and executes serial communication with the set-top box for requesting log-in to a server(142) if the PC receives a driving request signal from the set-top box. If the log-in is authenticated, the PC drives the dedicated browser and transmits driving permission to the set-top box. A remote control(104) is provided to operate the set-top box. The set-top box connects a TV(102) with the PC. If the set-top box receives an on-signal from the remote control, the set-top box communicates with the PC to request driving. If the set-top box receives a specific code request signal from the PC, the set-top box provides the specific code preliminarily set. If the PC sends a driving permit signal, the set-top box operates normally for transmitting video and audio signals of the PC to the TV.
