PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for adjusting an antenna gain in a mobile communication terminal are provided to obtain an optimized antenna gain irrespective of the position of the mobile communication terminal through one or more antennas having radiation patterns which are mutually orthogonal. CONSTITUTION: The first and second antennas(300,310) have radiation patterns of inter-different directions. A duplexer(330) processes an RF(Radio Frequency) signal transmitted and received from the first or second antenna(300,310). A switching circuit unit(320) performs a switching operation so that the first and second antennas(300,310) are alternately connected to the duplexer(330) while an MSM(Mobile Station Modem) chip(340) compares the reception antenna gains of the first and second antennas(300,310). The MSM chip(340) compares the reception antenna gains of the first and second antennas(300,310), which are inputted through the duplexer(330), and controls the switching circuit unit(320) so that an antenna having a high reception antenna gain is connected to the duplexer(330).
