PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To expand sales channel and usage of merchandise provided via the Internet by distributing a CD storing merchandise having a restricted use to release the merchandise from such restriction via the Internet. PSOLUTION: A large number of CD 11 including a ROM area 12 recording product versions with a restricted use as well as trial versions of a plurality of kinds of software and a writable RW area 13 is prepared, temporarily placed at PC shops or other stores, and distributed to a person interested in the software. When a PC 31 having the CD 11 set in a drive 32 calls a server 31 via the Internet 100, the server 21 delivers a release key to the PC 31 after completing user registration.
