PURPOSE: A device and a method for transmitting/receiving VOD stream service providing user-selected advertisement are provided to make a client select the kind of advertisement to avoid the client watching the one-sided advertisement. CONSTITUTION: A VOD server for providing user-selected advertisement includes a service control part(200) having a web service engine(201), a searching engine(202), a media streaming engine(203) and a cession management engine(204) for providing multimedia contents to a client and selectively providing advertisement of a predetermined type requested by the client, and a data storing part(210) having a user profile data base(211), an advertisement contents database(212) and a multimedia contents database(213) for storing the multimedia contents, advertisement contents and client information.
