Novel compounds showing tyrosinase-inhibitive effect purified from Veratrum grandiflorum and whitening compositions the same

PURPOSE: A novel compound separated from Veratrum grandiflorum, a skin whitening agent containing the compound and a preparation method of Veratrum grandiflorum extract are provided, to obtain the compound having a tyrosinase-inhibiting activity. CONSTITUTION: The compound is represented by the formula 1. The method comprises the steps of extracting Veratrum grandiflorum with methanol; extracting the methanol extract with butanol to recover the butanol-soluble part; performing the gel filtration chromatography of the butanol-soluble part to obtain the active fraction; and lyophilizing the obtained active fraction. Preferably the gel filtration chromatography uses sephadex LH-20 gel column or YMC gel ODS-A column. The skin whitening agent comprises the compound of the formula 1 or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, or the Veratrum grandiflorum extract.
