PURPOSE: An optimization method of primary and secondary cooling processes in continuous casting method of austenitic stainless steel is provided to minimize surface defects of the stainless steel by properly controlling primary and secondary cooling methods. CONSTITUTION: In a method for continuously casting austenitic stainless steel at a casting rate of 0.8 to 1.0 m/min in order to manufacture cast slab having width of 1200 to 1300 mm and thickness of 200 to 250 mm using a curved type continuous caster, the method for continuously casting stainless steel by primary and secondary cooling optimization comprises the processes of performing cooling by setting the severity of quenching of the outside part so that severity of quenching of an outside part is 9 to 11% lower than severity of quenching of an inside part during first cooling; setting the amount of cooling water of 1/5 zone or less of the front part in the total zone of secondary cooling section as 166 to 177 L/kg during secondary cooling; and performing cooling of the inside part at a cooling water flow rate of 2400 to 2600 L/min during the primary cooling.
