OPTICAL RECORDING/REPRODUCING SYSTEM USED FOR BOTH OF 8-CENTIMETER AND 12-CENTIMETER DISK CARTRIDGES AND INFORMATION RECORDING/REPRODUCING METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: An optical recording/reproducing system used for both of 8-centimeter and 12-centimeter disk cartridges and an information recording/reproducing method of the system are provided to mount at least two types of disk cartridges having different sizes on one tray to use the cartridges. CONSTITUTION: An optical recording/reproducing system includes a main body case, a tray(20) for selectively mounting at least two types of disk cartridges(200,210) having different sizes thereon, a means for supporting the disk cartridge mounted on the tray, and the first detector for detecting the size of larger disk cartridge mounted on the tray and the state of a disk accommodated in the cartridge. The system further includes the second detector for detecting the size of smaller disk cartridge mounted on the tray and the sate of a disk accommodated in the cartridge, a means for rotating a disk set inside a disk cartridge mounted on the tray, and a means for recording/reproducing information in/from the rotating disk.
