PURPOSE: A pilot strength measuring apparatus and method in a mobile station of a communication system adopting a transmission diversity are provided to heighten a detection probability of a multi-path component by combining pilot strengths received from each antenna, and double the pilot detection rate by simultaneously measuring the pilot strengths received from each antenna. CONSTITUTION: An I and Q scrambling code generator(112) generates a scrambling code of I component(PN_I) and a s scrambling code of Q component(PN_Q). A complex descrambler(114) inputs a reception input signal(RX_I,RX_Q) and complex-descrambles the scrambling codes according to PN_I and PN_Q, and outputs the descrambled reception signal. An accumulator(116) accumulates a reception baseband signal of I component without a scrambling code as much as Nc chip and outputs it. An accumulator(118) accumulates the reception baseband signal of Q component without a scrambling code as much as Nc chip and outputs it. An energy calculator(120) multiplies and adds the output signals(A,B) of the accumulators(116,118) and outputs an energy value for the reception signal. An accumulator(122) accumulates the output of the energy calculator(120) as much as L and outputs the result as a strength for the received pilot signal. A symbol pattern generator(132) generates a symbol pattern(D2) of the pilot channel. A multiplier(134) multiplies the symbol pattern(D2) and the scrambling code of I component(PN_I) and outputs it. A multiplier(136) multiplies the symbol pattern(D2) and the scrambling code of Q component(PN_Q) and outputs it.
