PURPOSE: A network interworking apparatus in a BSC(Base Station Controller) system is provided to efficiently perform an external network interworking and considerably decrease the embodying cost of the BSC system by embodying the interworking with external several service networks such as a CN(Core Network), an RNC(Radio Network Controller), and a GPRS(General Packet Radio Service) using one board. CONSTITUTION: Four optical transmitting/receiving units(110) connect to other networks by one to one, receive optical signals from the other networks, convert the received optical signals into electric serial data, and output the electric serial data. The four optical transmitting/receiving units(110) receive electric serial data, convert the received electric serial data into optical signals, and transmit the optical signals to the other networks. Four UNI(User Network Interface) units(120) connect to four optical transmitting/receiving units(110) by one to one, receive the serial data from the four optical transmitting/receiving units(110), convert the received serial data into parallel data, extract ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) cells, and output the extracted ATM cells. The four UNI units(120) receive ATM parallel data, convert the received ATM parallel data into serial data, and output the serial data to the four optical transmitting/receiving units(110). An ATM cell multiplexer(130) receives ATM parallel data from the four UNI units(120) and multiplexes the received ATM parallel data. The ATM cell multiplexer(130) receives the ATM parallel data, demultiplexes the received ATM parallel data, and outputs the demultiplexed ATM parallel data to the four UNI units(120). An ATM cell converting unit(140) receives ATM data with an AAL2(ATM Adaptation Layer 2) type from the ATM cell multiplexer(130), converts the received ATM data with the AAL2 type into ATM data with an AAL5 type, and outputs the ATM data with the AAL5 type. The ATM cell converting unit(140) receives the ATM data with the AAL5 type, converts the ATM data with the AAL2 type, and outputs the ATM data with the AAL2 type to the ATM cell multiplexer(130). A cell bus interworking unit(150) receives the ATM data with the AAL5 type from the ATM cell converting unit(140) and transmits the received ATM data with the AAL5 type to an ATM switch interworking unit(1) through a cell bus. The cell bus interworking unit(150) receives the ATM data with the AAL5 type from the ATM switch interworking unit(1) and interfaces the received ATM data with the AAL5 type to the ATM cell converting unit(140). A CPU module(160) performs all control operations of the four UNIT units(120), the ATM cell multiplexer(130), the ATM cell converting unit(140), and the cell bus interworking unit(150).
