This method is intended for recognising targets in a pre-set area, particularly a sea area, and this area is divided into resolution cells. The echo signals corresponding to all the cells are mixed together in the video range and are converted into digital amplitude values. From the cells that contain clutter, a clutter threshold value for the area is formed, and only those values larger than the threshold value are used in the target recognition process. This process is aided by means of 'ordered statistics' and clutter statistics (CSL).
