The core reception unit (10) forms a cartridge (11) removable from the core tube (2). Its two tubing sections (12,14) include an annular gap (13). The outer rests on a stop (8) in the core tube (2); the inner rests on a stop (15) around the lower edge of the outer. The inner can be moved up and down on a coupling rod. Both tube sections (12,14) include flexible ring-seals (19,20) in their seats (17,18). At outer tube seal height, a flexible spring steel pate (22) fills the inner tube. A wire loop (21) in the outer tube can tilt this plate. When tilted up it is fixed in the annular gap, when down, it is fixed between the ring seals. The inner tube upper edge has distributed latches. These clip into blocking teeth below the impact location of the inner tube. These are distributed correspondingly internally around the upper part of the outer tube. The outer tube upper edge can be closed with a flexible cover. Further pivoting latches bite into the ice core under spring loading as it rises during boring. These are located in the increased wall thickness of the core tube.
