Heat treatment process used for changing the properties of a metal object comprises irradiating metal object e.g. a steel spring in a predetermined surface section with electromagnetic radiation produced by an emitter
Heat treatment comprises irradiating metal object (101) e.g. steel spring in a predetermined surface section with electromagnetic radiation produced by an emitter (103) having a temperature - 2900 K in the near infrared (IR) region with an effective wavelength region of 0.8-1.5 mu m. The material of the surface layer absorbs predetermined treatment temperature depending on material parameters. An Independent claim is also included for a heat treatment device. Preferred Features: Irradiation is carried out for 30 seconds or less depending on the thickness of the surface layer to be treated. The radiation in the near IR region on the surface of the object has a power density of 400 kW/m2.
