Method for monitoring the arrangement of the wick in candles in a candlemaking machine compares the length of wick used in a candle production stage with a desired value and adjusting the machine if this exceeds the acceptable tolerance. An Independent claim is included for a machine for use in the process with an incremental wick feed (7) which passes wick to the main feed, a signal being produced corresponding to the length of wick used in the candlemaking stage. This is then compared with a desired value and adjustments made if this exceeds the acceptable tolerance.
