The method involves subjecting the electromagnet (1) to variable current strengths. While determining the current (I) strength, the influences of supply voltage fluctuations (delta Uv) and/or temperature fluctuations (delta Temp) on the magnetic force produced by the electromagnet depending on the current strength are compensated for. Independent claims are also included for the following: a memory element for a controller for a vehicle headlamp and a controller for Controlling or regulating a changeover process for a motor vehicle headlamp.
