The pipe coupling comprises a plug, socket (11) and locking sleeve (21). A locking tool is fitted on the locking sleeve before it is fitted. This has an arm (33) which fits into a bore (35) in the sleeve and a catch (38) which fits into a depression on the outside of the sleeve. After assembly the tool holds the sleeve in the unlocked position.
