A carrier signal (SI) modulating device modulates the carrier signal on the basis of a digital input signal and includes an assignment or allocation device (SZ) for unambiguous assignment of a symbol group consisting of at least two symbols for each input signal from a number of possible input signals, in which the carrier signal (SI) can be modulated with the values of the respective symbols. An Independent claim is given for the following; (1) a demodulation device, (2) a transmitter, (3) a receiver, (4) a modulation method for carrier signals.
