An optical system based on transmission devices (SE1,SE2) and at least one sub-control station (HUB1;HUB2) includes a generator (G) for modulating the intensity of optical distributed signals and of the optical individual signals, using counter-phase time functions with a modulating frequency of at least a factor of 100 less than the smallest useful sub-carrier frequency of the electric broad-band distribution signals. An adjustable damping member (D1;D2) is used for reducing signal power levels, and a detection circuit (DET1,C1; DET2,C2) is provided for detecting the resulting modulation amplitude of the optical signals in the termination (BONT) converters (O/E1;O/E2) and to control the damping of the adjustable damping member (D1;D2).
