Trapezoidal connecting rod (1) comprises a trapezoidal head (4) having a piston bolt bore (5) receiving a piston bolt (3), a crank pin bore receiving a crank pin, and a connecting rod shank (7) extending between the two bores. The trapezoidal head is defined in the region of the piston bolt bore by the end face (6) of the connecting rod eye which is inclined toward a radial plane of the piston bolt by a trapezoidal angle so that the end planes defined by the end faces of the connecting rod eye intersect on the side facing away from the connecting rod shank. The trapezoidal head starts to taper between the inclined end faces near a zone of the peripheral edge of the piston bolt bore facing the connecting rod shank. Two end face segments (10) remaining on the trapezoidal head below the piston bolt bore are arranged between hub sections provided on the piston side and remain below the inclined end planes.
