The system has a coolant radiator (14) and a thermostatic valve (18) for setting the coolant quantity fed to or past the radiator. The coolant outlet (22) of one row of cylinders (10) is directly connected to a radiator inlet and that (26) of the another row (12) is connected directly to a short circuit inlet of the thermostatic valve. An intermediate line (24) is arranged between thermostatic valve short circuit inlet and the radiator inlet.
